tears 2009

Tears - a free-standing, site-specific installation of various sized towers created from black tissue paper, cable ties and wire. The work was made in response to the tragedy of deforestation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Villagers lamented the loss of their land and trees to foreign companies extracting the wood for furniture made in Europe. ‘When I watched my village going away down the river, I cried tears ….’

Tears was exhibited in 140 Area 10, London in 2009
